Jordan attaches particular importance to the leather and garment industries as one of the promising industrial sectors that can be used to promote economic and social development in the Kingdom. This is due to its economic and social importance, in addition to being the most industrial sector in terms of labor intensity and employment, which comes from the large volume of its exports and current production, which in turn brings a large stock of foreign currency to the Kingdom. The sector has shown remarkable growth in recent years at all levels, benefiting from the advantages provided by free trade agreements and the incentives included in these agreements, which enabled the sector to enter many global markets.
According to the decision of the Cabinet, which adopted the industrial sectors and defined the sub-sectors, the leather and garment industries include the following sub-sectors: natural textile fibers, yarns, fabrics, ready-made textile items, excluding clothing, carpets and rugs, knitting and its products, clothing, fur, accessories for knits, natural and synthetic leather, bags, shoes, shoe accessories, and any other similar industries within this sector.
